Children at Weddings: Tips & Ideas

Keeping children entertained at weddings and finding the right activities can be challenging, so I’ve gathered a few ideas for those of you who will have children attending your big day. Beforehand, it’s important to check with your venue whether they offer any games, a play area, or even proper sleeping arrangements for younger children.

1. Nanny, Babysitter & Childcare
If you’re only having a civil ceremony without a large celebration afterward, childcare won’t be necessary.
However, if you’re planning a bigger event, childcare is highly recommended so you can enjoy your special day without stress.

You can hire a babysitter or nanny — some couples ask a friend, although it’s best if this person is not a regular wedding guest. A budget-friendly option is hiring a trainee or someone who wants to earn a little extra.
There are also professional childcare providers experienced with events — slightly more costly, but they create a great atmosphere with activities and fun entertainment.
If you don’t want childcare throughout the entire day, make sure to inform parents in advance about when the childcare ends. This helps your guests plan accordingly.

2. The Right Activities for Children
Wedding games and entertainment help children avoid boredom — because bored kids quickly run to their parents.

Equip it with drawing materials, crafts, colouring pages — it keeps them busy for a while.

Outdoor Toys

Perfect for weddings held outside:

Perfect for energetic kids — just make sure there is an adult supervising.

3. Sleeping Arrangements
Tired kids quickly become cranky — to avoid stress, check early whether your venue has sleeping options.

If the kids are younger, a baby monitor is extremely helpful.
